چکیده
In Part I of this diptych, we outlined the theory and an analysis methodology for quantitative phase recovery from real-space distortions Fresnel images acquired in parallel mode transmission electron microscopy (TEM). that work, properties method, termed TEM-differential contrast (TEM-DPC), were highlighted through use simulated data. explore TEM-DPC technique with experimental cryo-TEM a thin lamella low temperature two-dimensional (2-D) ferromagnetic material, K$_2$CuF$_4$, to perform two tasks. First, using recorded below ordering temperature, compare method transport intensity one recovery, discuss relative advantages former has Second, by tracking induction sample as it is driven transition heating, extract estimates critical exponent order parameter. The value latter consistent 2-D XY class, raising prospect Kosterlitz--Thoules may have occurred.

First Demonstration of Phase Contrast Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy
Biological molecules are composed of light elements and can be considered as phase objects for the electron waves. Therefore, images of their unstained specimens show low contrast in transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Phase contrast TEM (P-TEM) is one of the powerful techniques to enhance image contrast of the phase objects [1]. In P-TEM, the phase plate (PP) is placed at a back focal plan...
متن کاملVolta potential phase plate for in-focus phase contrast transmission electron microscopy.
We describe a phase plate for transmission electron microscopy taking advantage of a hitherto-unknown phenomenon, namely a beam-induced Volta potential on the surface of a continuous thin film. The Volta potential is negative, indicating that it is not caused by beam-induced electrostatic charging. The film must be heated to ∼ 200 °C to prevent contamination and enable the Volta potential effec...
متن کاملPrinciples of Phase Contrast (Electron) Microscopy
In phase-contrast light and electron microscopy, one exploits the wave properties of photons and electrons respectively. The principles of imaging with waves are the realm of “Fourier Optics”. As a very first experiment (“Gedankenexperiment”), let us think back to days when we – as children – would focus the (parallel) light waves of the (far away) sun on a piece of paper in order to set it ali...
متن کاملA nanocrystalline Hilbert phase-plate for phase-contrast transmission electron microscopy.
Thin-film-based phase-plates are applied to enhance the contrast of weak-phase objects in transmission electron microscopy. In this work, metal-film-based phase-plates are considered to reduce contamination and electrostatic charging, which up to now limit the application of phase-plates fabricated from amorphous C-films. Their crystalline structure requires a model for the simulation of the ef...
متن کاملTransmission electron microscopy with Zernike phase plate.
The possibility of implementing a Zernike phase plate in a transmission electron microscope is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. The phase-retarding plate in the form of thin film with a hole in the center is positioned in the back-focal plane of the objective lens. The experiments show that the phase plate functions as predicted, producing a cosine-type phase contrast transfe...
